None

None is a photography project that explores both the practice of portraiture and the essence of photography itself. Initiated in 2007, the project involves collecting images from various sources, including the internet, film frames, family albums, photographs captured from the television, and religious cards. Each of these images holds a unique connection to me, considered from both a physiognomic and intellectual standpoint.
Challenging the conventional notion of photography as a mere reflection of reality, especially within the context of portraiture, I sought to understand how alternative portraits could serve as nuanced reflections of my identity. Departing from the traditional approach of capturing a singular representation of the face, None is a project inspired by mimesis, multiplicity, and the concealed ambiguity that exists between subject and object. This endeavor involves a recalibration of the portrait’s form, offering a fresh perspective and revealing a novel expressive equilibrium concerning the nature of the photographic referent.
